ABOUT BEING A WITCH

By

Hi friend,

I’m glad you’re here.
Pull up a chair and let’s dive into
one of my deep dark secrets.

Ever since I was four or five, I knew I was a witch.

SKIP AHEAD

What makes me a witch?

How do you become a witch?

How do you know to become a witch?

I knew I harnessed this magical power inside that I had to keep secrets or else “something bad would happen.” I was terrified.

I heard this over and over again in my head for decades.

As an academic, I couldn’t fathom that any of this supernatural stuff was real, so I hid it away and felt deep guilt and shame. I created so many walls, I didn’t know what part was me and what part was manufactured by the man.

So I burned it all down, I dissected every belief, I analyzed every thought, I observed and experimented, until I cleaned up my inner world.

This all happened around 2020; when I, like many of you, finally had my spiritual awakening. Having a platform on social media where people from all over the world shared supernatural experiences and taught how to harness magical powers changed my life.

Finally, I didn’t have to hide anymore! I could be open to share all of my experiences and powers, right? WRONG.

I had been hiding away for so long, it was too late the barrier is too strong. I’m stuck.

For the last two year, I’ve been trying to break free. I’ve joined online and irl communities. Nothing has really worked. I’m still super awkward and come off as inauthentic.

I think it was because I am still ashamed of this side of myself. This Witch Wound makes being seen dangerous. It makes talking about how real magic is dangerous. It makes being a woman feel dangerous.

So instead of continuing to try to break free, I’ve decided to bring you in.

Welcome to my Inner World!

Now that it’s safe, let’s get started.

  • yes i know i’m still putting this on the internet for all to see but in my head, this really is my inner world. and so it’s safe here. maybe that’s why i chose the website to be black? that’d be cool.

If you’re on the fence about identifying as a witch, keep reading.

First, let’s define what is a witch. Using my own words, I see a “witch” as someone who is so in tune with nature and their inner world that people and things are just naturally drawn to them.

Here is ChatGPT’s definition:

👉 A witch is someone who intentionally practices magic, works with the forces of nature and spirit, and embodies the role of healer, seer, or power-holder in their own unique way.

I think that we step into this role when we’re ready to face our inner world. So let’s start there.

What makes me a witch?

To be clear, you are already a witch. Everyone harnesses magical powers, they’ve just forgotten they do. They have forgotten to listen or how to understand the signs.

I am confident that we all harness these powers because we all come from the earth and the earth has repeatedly demonstrated how magical/mysterious it is.

We all have indigenous ancestors that once lived with the flow of earth instead of forcing it to conform to our will and then we wonder why there’s global warming…

So it doesn’t matter where you came from, at some point your ancestors had ceremonies and rituals that honored the earth.

I think that’s what makes someone a witch, someone who honors themselves, the land, and their ancestors.

Here’s what ChatGPT said:

It isn’t a certificate, a coven, or a title that makes you a witch. It’s a way of relating to the world:

  • You see the sacred in the ordinary.
  • You work with energy, intention, and symbols to shape reality.
  • You live in rhythm with the cycles of nature, your body, and the cosmos.
  • You seek empowerment, healing, and transformation — for yourself and sometimes for others.
  • You know in your bones that magic is real, whether it’s through herbs, spells, or sheer willpower.

So, being a witch is less about external validation and more about inner alignment. If you feel it and live it, you are it.

How do you know to become a witch?

Usually a spiritual (or witchy) awakening comes from a tower moment event that makes you see your life with a fresh perspective. We need something that jolts us out of conformity and makes us start to think and ask questions.

We don’t always need such event, if you are in tune with your inner world naturally, you probably have a deep relationship built on trust with your intuition. When you intuition says “jump”, you say “how high.”

Most of us don’t trust so easily so when we hear a voice or feel a jolt, we allow our reason to brush it off and say “it was nothing.”

Our minds want to keep us safe so anything out of the ordinary gets pushed out. Our minds wants us to have a coherent story without holes. Giving it more positive supernatural experiences, allows it to feel safe. The safer it feels, the more it is willing to dive into the supernatural.

It is a natural phenomenon. Following the path of the heart leads to power.

To keep the trend, here’s what ChatGPT said:

For most people who walk this path, it isn’t one clear moment — it’s a calling. Some signs people recognize in hindsight:

  • Feeling “different” or drawn to the mystical since childhood.
  • A deep bond with nature, animals, or the moon.
  • A hunger for the unseen: astrology, mythology, divination, folklore.
  • Strong intuition, dreams, or sensitivities you couldn’t ignore.
  • A moment of crisis or awakening where you needed power beyond the ordinary world — and magic was what answered.

Often, it’s not so much “deciding” as it is remembering something that’s been in you all along.

✨ So if you’re asking these questions, that’s already part of the answer: you’re listening to the call.

How do you become a witch?

Just start by paying attention and communicating with those outside your group. Talk to new people, talk to animals, talk to plants, talk to rocks, talk to flames, talk to the wind, talk to water. Just start with the desire to connect with the earth in your unique way. Go outside, go hiking, go swimming, dance, do the things that make you feel alive and grateful to be living on this incredible planet!

Always remember what works for someone else, may not work for you! Don’t be scared to experiment! Most of all, don’t forget to listen to the little voice in your head or in your heart that whispers the things that you want to do but are scared you won’t get the chance to.

I asked ChatGPT the same question, here’s what it said:

Becoming a witch isn’t about joining an exclusive club — it’s about remembering a way of being that has always existed. Witches have many paths (herbalists, astrologers, diviners, healers, spellcasters, kitchen witches, green witches, ceremonial witches, etc.), but most share these steps:

  • Curiosity & study: Read about different traditions (folk witchcraft, Wicca, chaos magick, ancestral practices). Notice what resonates.
  • Practice: Start small — light a candle with intention, work with the moon cycles, make tea with herbs for healing. Magic is often everyday action imbued with intention.
  • Connection with nature & cycles: Witches honor the elements (earth, air, fire, water, spirit), the moon, the seasons, and the unseen energies.
  • Inner listening: A witch trusts their intuition and hones it through meditation, divination (tarot, runes, pendulum), or dreams.
  • Ethics & boundaries: Each path has its own code — some follow “harm none,” others focus more on personal responsibility and consequences.

I second these recommendations! I’d also recommend for you to ask ChatGPT the same question because then it can make specific recommendations for you.

So yes, I am a witch. Even though I do still go to catholic church on occasion, I do still eat fast food, I am still a scientific method loving scientist; I think it’s just about listening to yourself and living in accordance with your truth.

If you’re ready to step into the world of witches (regardless of gender), here are ten things to stop doing (or keep doing them up to you – this is from chatgpt):

🔮 Ten things a witch wouldn’t do

  1. Ignore their intuition – A witch trusts the inner voice; silencing it disconnects them from their power.
  2. Disrespect nature – Harming the earth, animals, or cycles of life goes against the essence of most witchcraft.
  3. Use power without consent – Casting spells to control or manipulate someone’s will (love spells, domination, etc.) is often seen as unethical.
  4. Take without giving back – Whether gathering herbs, using crystals, or asking spirits for help, witches honor reciprocity.
  5. Dismiss the unseen – A witch knows energy, symbols, and timing matter, even if they can’t be measured scientifically.
  6. Overstep ancestral or cultural boundaries – Appropriation of closed practices without respect or permission is avoided.
  7. See magic as a shortcut for responsibility – Magic complements action; it doesn’t replace showing up in the real world.
  8. Waste or misuse tools – Ritual items, herbs, and energy are treated with reverence, not frivolity.
  9. Work against their own cycles – A witch respects rest, shadow work, and healing just as much as outward action.
  10. Forget the balance of cause and effect – Whether called karma, the Threefold Law, or just energy returning, witches know that what you send out circles back.
