THE ORNELIAN FRAMEWORK | SOMATIC KNOWING | BODY | EXPRESSION

By

II. Somatic Knowing (Body)

Overview:
Somatic Knowing is the intelligence of the body. It arises through sensation, movement, energy, and the physical engagement with the world. Learners in this grouping excel at reading physical cues, embodying knowledge, and integrating learning into lived, tangible experience.

This Domain emphasizes awareness, alignment, and the translation of internal states into action. Somatic Knowing connects mind and body, revealing insight through posture, gesture, and physical practice. It is essential for fields that require dexterity, performance, or the embodiment of skill.

Through Somatic Knowing, learners cultivate presence, mindfulness, and the ability to respond intuitively to bodily and environmental cues. It transforms knowledge into lived experience, grounding learning in practical and felt reality.

Practices:

  • Mindful movement practices, including yoga or dance.
  • Sensory observation exercises: notice texture, temperature, and motion in daily life.
  • Repeat skill-based exercises with full attention to bodily feedback.

Journal Prompts:

  • How attuned am I to my body and its signals today?
  • Where do I notice tension, ease, or misalignment?
  • What physical practices help me integrate knowledge into action?
